Slow cooker corn chowder is easier than you think! Only 15 minutes of prep and your trusty slow cooker for an easy corn chowder the entire family will love!
Slow cooker soup recipes are my favorite all year long but especially during fall and winter. And this easy slow cooker corn chowder is no exception.
Soups like slow cooker sweet tortilla soup (SO good) and my family's favorite creamy chicken and rice soup are soul warming. Pair with a salad and light & fluffy one-hour dinner rolls for a hearty, weeknight meal!
How can you not love a slow cooker soup where the only real work is peeling and cubing the potatoes? Everything else in this corn chowder slow cooker recipe is pretty much tossed or sprinkled in (except for the half and half—that would be messy!) followed by that whole set-it-and-forget-it thing for which your slow cooker is famous.
Speaking of slow cookers, mine is not programmable and I'm considering buying a new one that is, especially since I'm starting a full-time job and would love to have dinner ready when I get home. That sounds super delightful!
The reviews on Hamilton Beach 7-quart programmable slow cooker look good and at less than $40, I'm pretty sure it needs to be an early Christmas present to myself.
We have a family of six so I tend to double recipes. If you are more like a family of four, I'd still double this chowder with bacon and enjoy leftovers throughout the week.
But if you don't love leftovers or you have even fewer people you're feeding, try halving your slow cooker chowder recipe. Or you could still do the full batch and freeze leftovers!
I love adding bacon to pretty much everything, but if you're vegetarian, you could totally make slow cooker corn chowder without the bacon. It will still be full of creamy, corn flavor!
Similar to some of my other favorite slow cooker soup recipes, this recipe calls for ingredients I usually have on hand (minus the potatoes... for some reason we don't eat a ton of those). I love recipes where I can grab things from my fridge and pantry and go!
I'm pretty sure I'll be making corn chowder in my slow cooker a lot more often after my family fell in love with this recipe!

I love chowders and just bought a big bag of corn from our local farm. Your looks delish.
Emily Hill
I bet the local corn would taste so yummy in this recipe!
Jere
Chowders are the best. I have a lot of corn in the freezer I need to use.
Emily Hill
It's a great way to use it!

Only 15 minutes to this Fall dish? Sign me up!
Emily Hill
Well, 15 minutes of prep but you still have a few hours in the slow cooker. :)
Jori
A feast for the eyes and belly! My kids will love this and so will I. Perfect for fall. Thank you for this recipe!
Emily Hill
My kids liked it and they're picky soup eaters. :)
Michelle
Your photos are gorgeous! I've been really into making soups recently and corn chowder is one of my favorites. Corn makes such a great soup ingredient, who would have thought?
Emily Hill
Thank you so much!
Adrianne
Super delicious looking recipe Emily that I am saving for the next cold night. Cheers and yum!! I gave you 5 out of 5!!!
Emily Hill
Thank you so much!
Aimee
Oh my gosh this is the easiest soup to prep before heading to work. LOVE IT.
Emily Hill
Yes! And those are the best recipes!
Katerina @ diethood .com

This Chowder is freaking fantastic!
Emily Hill
I have to agree with you!
Alli
Corn chowder is one of our favorites. I adore the bacon in this recipe. So good!
Emily Hill
I love adding bacon to whatever I can. :)
Erika
Hi! This recipe looks great. Just a question, do you cook the bacon before putting it in the crockpot? Or do you just put it in raw with all the ingredients? Thank you!! can't wait to make it.
Emily Hill
Yes! I use packaged pre-cooked bacon pieces to make it extra easy, but if you're going with a package of raw bacon, cook it first!
Michele Holmes
I made this for dinner last night and it was so easy and YUMMY!!
Emily Hill
I'm so glad you liked it! It's definitely one of my new favorite recipes!
Darcey
I just threw this in the crockpot and I'm wondering, no liquid? I know I put the half & half in at the end, but I was nervous about no initial liquid? Fingers crossed!!
Emily Hill
I hope it worked for you! Yes, no additional liquid. The creamed corn and frozen corn supply a good amount of liquid. It's rather surprising!
Susan
Can I put the half and half in at the beginning??
Emily Hill
I'm so sorry! I just saw your comment. I haven't tried that and I'd worry the half and half might "break." I'd wait if possible!
Teresa
Hi. I'd like to try this delicious looking recipe. If I cook it on low how many hours do you suggest?
Emily Hill
I've never tried it on low but usually low takes about twice as long so I'd start there!
Klair
Just prepped this to cook overnight! It looks amazing already and I can’t wait to wake up to the smell in the house.
Emily Hill
Yay! I hope it works out. I've never tried cooking it overnight but that sounds like a brilliant idea!
Sarah
I don't have frizen corn can i use fresh corn on the cob cut off?? If so do.i need to add water.. also can i add onions or garlic or will that ruin the recipe?
Thank you
Emily Hill
I haven't tried it with fresh corn but I bet that would work! I don't think you would need to add more liquid. And I bet onions and garlic would be great!
Jodi
I added about 1/2C diced onion and 4 cups shredded chicken. A little black pepper and yum!
Emily Hill
Oh my gosh! That sounds so yummy. I totally need to try that next time!
Shanee Andreas
To make it even quicker I use the pre-cut potatoes from the hashbrown/freezer section. I am making this right now. Excited to taste the Worcester sauce in here. Yummy.
Emily Hill
That's a brilliant idea!
R J STEWART
How many ears of fresh corn will I need?
Emily Hill
One medium ear of corn will give you about 1/2 cup of kernels, so I'd say about eight ears of fresh corn.
Maureen
Is this a thick soup? It sounds delicious!
Emily Hill
It's not super thick but it is thicker than something like a chicken noodle soup or other "broth" soup. We love it!
Kelly
The bacon pieces that you put on at the end is that the same that you use in the beginning
Emily Hill
Yes! They're the same!
Michelle
I'd love to make this recipe, however is there something I can use as a substitute for the half & half? I'm lactose intolerant :(
Emily Hill
If there isn't a lactose-free half & half option, I would try lactose free whole milk!
CM Mason
Country Crock (and others) make a plant base half and half cream as a substitute for lactose based dairy options. Alternatively I have used lactose free milk in place of the cream but since it is thinner I would start by using 1/4 to 1/2 of the amount of cream and then adjust as it cooks to get desired consistency.
I find the lactose free dairy milk as a substitute for milk products that have lactose to be far superior to plant based milks (and nut based) for both digestion and nutrition. But that is my experience and not a scientific claim. We are all different and our bodies handle things differently- We cant approach food as a "if its bad for me (or one of us) then its bad for everyone. This apply it to everyone world kinda sucks. So dont be a sheep.... do what works for you. Be your own mentor and guide and use the FDA, doctors, et al as a reference.
Karline Rousseau
I'm trying lactose-free evaporated milk- another plus is that you can put it in at the beginning.
Becky
can this be cooked on low instead of high for 8hours?
Emily Hill
You can totally cook it on low, though it may not take 8 hours.
Malorie
Great recipe!! It will definitely be a staple in the house! Only changes we made was that we added hot peppers to give it some kick. We also cooked it for 5.5 hrs as after 4 in our crock pot the potatoes were still under cooked on high.
Emily Hill
I love the idea of adding some kick to the recipe! Glad you liked it!!
Mallory
I'm trying to determine if I should get Russet potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes for this recipe -- which do you typically use? Excited to try this -- thanks! :)
Emily Hill
You could use either but I prefer Yukon golds because they're creamier. :)
Monica Owen
I love Crock Pot soups in the Fall and Winter and want to try this one. My husband is Gluten-Free because of Celiac's Disease, so instead of the Creamed Corn, can I use an additional cup of corn ? Is the Cream Style corn just for thickening?
Amy F
Oh my gosh! This soup is easy and so delicious!! Thank you for a wonderful recipe!
Noe
Looks so yummy! Just finished all the prep and it’s in the crockpot, can’t wait to eat this especially since it’s a really cold day! Thank you for sharing!
Roseann
Try looking up homemade creamed corn, then you can control what goes into it. But I do believe you need creamed corn for the liquid bit.
Angela Wagner
what are the best potatoes to make with this as i have gold potatoes and red potatoes i need to use up but i know some cooked like that will get sticky whats your thoughts
Lou Maus
OMG! This is soo good! Followed directions exactly as you wrote them. Super easy and such flavor! Thank you so much for this super simple, super good recipe! Perfect with fresh crusty bread.
Brenda
I want to freeze this. I’m thinking that I cook everything (leave out the half and half) then freeze. When you want to eat it, thaw, and reheat adding the half and half then. Would that work?
Annie
I hate creamed corn but love regular corn. What would I use for the liquid in the beginning before I would add the half and half?
